The best view of this small town is from the bridge over the "Hérault" river, where the Canal du Midi begins. Agde is near to the extinct volcano Mont Saint Loup and its houses are built from this volcanic rock, as is the massive Cathédrale St. Etienne (12 century), whose walls are two to three metres thick. The 35 metres tall bell tower was also used for defence in former times whose walls are thick two to three meters. The 35 meters defense mechanisms have high bell tower.
